About Us:
Blackwattle Alpaca Farm is a picturesque farm nestled in the heart of Murrumbateman. We’re home to a diverse group of animals, including charming alpacas, majestic llamas and playful goats. Our mission is to provide a quality home for our animals as well as an educational environment where visitors can learn about these remarkable creatures. It is a great place to experience the joys of farm life.

Who can become a volunteer?
To apply for a role as part of Blackwattle Alpaca Farms’s Volunteer Program candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Be 18 years and over.
- Commit to the minimum time requirements (this varies by role).
- Have a love for animals and a genuine interest in farm life.
- Possess good physical fitness, as some tasks may involve lifting and physical labor.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with visitors.
- Be reliable and have the ability to work as part of a team.
- Secondary Students only – If you are under 18 years of age, please contact us to discuss school work experience opportunities.
- Tertiary Student Work Experience only – applicants to be enrolled in a certificate/degree in veterinary medicine or animal care and have successfully completed all necessary course requirements. A minimum of 4 weeks notice is required to host a placement, so please contact us well in advance.
Volunteer Roles and Duties:
We have a number of different departments in which you can volunteer and gain experience.
- Animal Care: Assist in the care of alpacas, llamas and goats. Ensure all animals receive the proper nutrition and help maintain clean and comfortable living spaces for our animals. This includes cleaning paddocks, coops, and other farm areas.
- Tours: Assist our tour guides in hosting guided tours for farm visitors.
- Retail: Greet visitors, answer questions, and provide excellent customer service. Provide assistance with front of house sales.
- General Farm Maintenance: Pitch in with other farm tasks, such as gardening and grounds maintenance.
- Dye Studio: Assist our staff in the dye studio and witness the wool journey from paddock to product.
- Long Term Volunteer – Volunteers commit to one 4-6 hour day per week for 3 months or more. Volunteer days include Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Tertiary Student Work Experience – applicants commit to a 1 or 2 week block, completing working experience from 10 to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
