About us
Our farm, called Blackwattle, is an easy 25 minute drive from Canberra, and is run by us, Angela and Matthew Smith. We are located in Murrumbateman, NSW and our farm is named after the black wattle trees growing across our property.
As a working alpaca farm, running a herd of 70 alpacas, mainly breeding females, we focus our breeding program on the advancement of fleece for fibre processing, whilst meeting the industry standard for conformation.
Our Farm Shop is located within our new Blackwattle HQ, where Angela works, hand dyeing the yarn and fibre, and is open to visitors 10am to 4pm Friday through to Sunday.
We also have a cafe on site catering for morning and afternoon tea, light refreshments and for small private function.
The Australian Alpaca Association (AAA) is recognised by the Australian Government as the peak industry body for the alpaca industry in Australia and provides tools, information and support to bring owners together for the future of alpaca farming.
The AAA runs one of the most internationally advanced alpaca registers of bloodlines and breeding predictors to generate continual improvement in Australia’s herd quality and worldwide reputation. The development of standards for the emerging meat and hide industry is now underway.
The AAA mission is to grow the Australian alpaca industry into one that is recognised as a sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprise for current and future farmers, through building domestic and international customer-driven markets and supply chains for Australian alpaca livestock, fibre and meat.
Blackwattle Alpaca Farm is a proud AAA member. More information about the Australian Alpaca Association here.
