ABOUT US

Our farm, called Blackwattle, is an easy 30 minute drive from Canberra, and is run by us, Angela and Matthew Smith.

Nestled in beautiful Murrumbateman, NSW, our farm takes its name from the native blackwattle trees that grow across our property.

We’re a working alpaca farm with a herd of around 60 alpacas, primarily breeding females. Our focus is on improving fleece quality for fibre production while maintaining excellent conformation and herd health.

Our Farm Shop is open Friday to Sunday, 10am–4pm. Come and browse our beautiful range of alpaca products, yarns and gifts.

While you’re here, relax in our on-site café, offering morning and afternoon tea, light refreshments, a selection of hot and cold beverages, and delicious toasted sandwiches. We also cater for private functions and group bookings.

The Australian Alpaca Association (AAA) is recognised by the Australian Government as the peak industry body for the alpaca industry in Australia and provides tools, information and support to bring owners together for the future of alpaca farming.

The AAA runs one of the most internationally advanced alpaca registers of bloodlines and breeding predictors to generate continual improvement in Australia’s herd quality and worldwide reputation. The development of standards for the emerging meat and hide industry is now underway.

The AAA mission is to grow the Australian alpaca industry into one that is recognised as a sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprise for current and future farmers, through building domestic and international customer-driven markets and supply chains for Australian alpaca livestock, fibre and meat.

Blackwattle Alpaca Farm is a proud AAA member. More information about the Australian Alpaca Association.
